Younus Khan Named As New Pakistan Captain....

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that Younus Khan is is to replace Shoaib Malik as Pakistan captain following a 2-1 ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka earlier this month...

After the last match, which saw Pakistan thumped by 234 runs, the board announced it was demanding an explanation for the defeat and chairman Ijaz Butt confirmed today that Younus Khan would take over in charge of the side...

"Younus will be captain until further notice," Butt said in Lahore, adding that Malik had agreed to stand down...

Shoaib Malik was installed as captain following Inzamam-ul-Haq's retirement after the 2007 World Cup, leading Pakistan to the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 final where they lost to India...

Earlier this year he had been reappointed 'indefinitely' but the PCB has acted swiftly and decisively to change things after a humiliating loss on home soil...

Younus, 31, has played 58 Tests and 181 ODIs for Pakistan, captaining four times in Tests, three times in ODIs, and once for a Twenty20 International...

Younus's first task will be to take on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series which begins on February 22nd in Karachi...
