DITF draws huge crowd


The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2009 is gaining momentum as a large number of visitors thronged Sunday, the 18th day of the trade extravaganza. Both on Friday and Saturday large number of customers and visitors also thronged the fair ground...

Organiser Export Promotion Bureau sources said nearly 1.5 lakh visitors come to fair every day to buy household appliances, cosmetics winter clothes, cellular phone services, jewellery, handicrafts, dairy products, food and groceries, gift items, toys, stationery and plastic products...

They said each day around Tk 10 crore goods are being sold at the trade fair ground. Number of visitors start to rise in the noon...

However, buyers complain over quality of both local and foreign goods. They said most of the products are selling in the fair ground are substandard...

Rafina Islam, a housewife of Mohammadpur area said the products selling in the fair are substandard. Foreign goods are also low quality. But they are charging high price than the other market price...

Meanwhile, on allegation of realising high price of foods EPB has closed all the food courts in the fair ground. On allegation EPB had launched investigation and found that the food courts are charging high price then the approved one...

Besides, EPB is also investigating an allegation against some local companies of giving sublet some stalls to some local companies which they got allotment in the name of foreign companies...

Director Information and Public Relations of Hamdard Kazi Mansur-Ul- Huq said large number of patients are coming to their stall everyday. Hamdard has introduced three new products in this year's fair where prominent physicians are providing free treatment to the patients. The three new items are Endemali, Joshina, Ispaghol (Husk)...

In the fair Walton has brought biggest ever refrigerator. The 810-liter refrigerator is selling at Tk 1,19,000. Pran is offering different package in the fair. Some of the companies are offering discount on price...

The country's biggest trade event began on January 1 and will continue until 31st of January...

This year the EPB has established 467 special pavilion, premier pavilion, pavilion, mini pavilion, stall and premier stall in the fair ground. Twenty-two companies from 12 countries are participating the event. This year Sri Lanka is partner country of the fair...

The fair remains open from 10 am to 10 pm for the visitors. Price of entry ticket for adult is Tk 12 and for minors is Tk 7...
