Shoaib Malik Questions Akhtar's Place In Team

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik intimated after his side's 129-run loss to Sri Lanka in Karachi that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is not worth his place in the side...

Shoaib bowled just six overs in the match and was given only seven in the first game yesterday, which Pakistan won by eight wickets...

"We need a bowler who can bowl ten overs and also show commitment in the field for 50 overs," Malik said,

"And I think and like everyone saw there was a question mark over his (Akhtar's) fitness to bowl his full overs and also show commitment on the field for 50 overs. We have lot of very good young bowlers in domestic cricket who are performing well and who deserve a chance...

"I will definitely speak to the selectors and management - we need to move on now," Malik added...

33-year-old Akhtar has been no stranger to controversy throughout his career and has only just returned to the international fold after serving a ban for repeated indiscipline and has playing 46 Tests and 140 One Day Internationals...

The final match takes place in Lahore on January 24th...

Malik himself has not been without his critics during his reign as captain, however, with Mohammad Yousuf's openly speaking out against Malik after he had ended his international career by signing for the Indian Cricket League...
