Injuries ruined title bid - Galliani

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani believes a succession of high-profile injury setbacks have cost his side the chance of challenging city rivals Inter for this season's Serie A title.

Goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has become the latest player to join the club's long injury list after being ruled out for the season with a knee problem.

"This has been a terrible year for us in terms of injuries to our players," said Galliani.

Kakha Kaladze and Gennaro Gattuso were also lost to season-ending injuries earlier in the campaign while Brazil midfielder Kaka has fresh concerns over a foot injury that has seen him sidelined for the past few weeks.

Galliani added: "I continue to think that, without these numerous injuries this year, we would have been Scudetto candidates. Now we must continue to work in order to end the season in the best possible way."

With 10 games remaining Carlo Ancelotti's side find themselves third in the table, 12 points behind leaders Inter and five adrift of Juventus in second.

And Ancelotti admits catching Juve is the only realistic target for the rest of the campaign.

"I think it's possible to overtake Juventus," he said. "There are still many games left to play, including our game against Juve."
