Wie and Stanford share lead

Michelle Wie continued her solid start at the SBS Open by carding a two-under-par 70 in the second round on Friday.

The 19-year-old Wie, who moved alongside Angela Stanford at eight-under 136 with one round remaining. was one stroke behind first-round leader Stanford entering the day but quickly made up the deficit at the Turtle Bay resort in her home state of Hawaii.

Despite blustery conditions, Wie started her round with a birdie for the second straight day, this time on the par-four 10th hole.

After bogeying at the 17th to return to even par, Wie recorded three straight birdies from the second to the fourth hole before bogeying the par-three eighth.

"It feels good (to be in contention)," Wie said.

"I'm just glad I played a good round today. I'm just really excited to come back home and play in front of my home crowd again. So I think tomorrow will be another fun day."

Stanford, who surged to the top of the leaderboard on Thursday with a seven-under 65, failed to build on her lead but was consistent throughout her second round, recording a flawless one-under 71 that included 17 pars.

After opening with back-to-back pars, Stanford sank her lone birdie at the par-five third before recording 15 straight pars to maintain her share of the lead.

Angela Park, who is seeking her first LPGA victory, had the low round of the day, notching five birdies and a bogey en route to a four-under 68 - one shot behind Wie and Stanford.

High winds caused scores to soar on Friday, and Park was the only player in the field to break 70 as the cut dropped to six-over.

Momoko Ueda is another stroke back of Park after a one-under 71 pushed her to five-under 139 overall - two shots ahead of a four-player group led by Yani Tseng of Taiwan that is tied for fifth at three-under.

Last year's Rookie of the Year, Tseng started her round with a double-bogey after shooting a six-under 66 on Thursday. She bounced back with a pair of birdies over her next six holes, but three bogeys during the following eight left her with a three-over 75.

Stacy Lewis (70), Vicky Hurst (71) and Brittany Lang (70) are tied with Tseng.

Ai Miyazato is alone in ninth after a two-under 70 left her at two-under 142, and five players are tied for 10th at 143, including Paula Creamer, who is one-over 73 after an opening-round 70.
